IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (IMS2019), The Hub of Microwaves, June 2 – 7, 2019, Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC)

May 22, 2019 By admin

The microwave and RF industry is heading to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC) for this year’s IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (IMS2019) which will feature start-ups, innovators and disruptors in the field. From June 2 – 7, the flagship conference of Microwave Week and the world’s largest event for RF and Microwave technology will attract an expected 9,000 attendees from 48 countries.

The International Microwave Symposium (IMS) is the annual conference and exhibition of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S). IMS features a large trade show with a large commercial exhibition featuring over 600 companies and a technical program offering technical sessions, interactive forums, plenary and panel sessions, workshops, short courses, application seminars, and a wide variety of other technical and social activities. The program covers the latest microwave and RF advancements in emerging areas such as 5G, automobile radar, wearable electronics, the Internet of Things, wireless HDMI, medical applications, satellite communications, and more. IMS2020 will be held June 21-27 in Los Angeles. For more information, visit https://www.ims-ieee.org

“Boston’s rich scientific history and entrepreneurial spirit make it the perfect place to debut our startup programming,” Larry Kushner, IMS2019 General Co-chair. “Our goal is to foster innovation and development that will change the wireless industry. With the platform and talented minds at IMS, we’re confident startups will have the opportunity to make meaningful connections and push the industry forward.”

Dubbed ‘The Hub of Microwaves,’ this year’s symposium is the first to feature tracks and events to highlight RF and microwave startups. Premiering at IMS2019 is the ‘Startup Pavilion,’ a stand-out space on the exhibit floor dedicated to startups. Featured exhibitors include Altum RF, JETCOOL Technologies, Iconic RF, Kumu Networks, Nalu Scientific, Raytech, and Starry, an internet-provider startup headquartered in Boston.

“It’s exciting to be able to showcase the new technologies being developed by these companies at IMS this year,” Ryan Lagoy Lead Engineer at Starry and IMS2019 Startup Activities Co-Chair. “The opportunity to connect and share knowledge between these early stage companies and the greater RF and microwave industry is invaluable to both startups and industry leaders.”

Also new this year is the “Next Top Startup Competition,” which is a platform for entrepreneurs to pitch their concepts to expert judges active in the startup ecosystem including investment firms, tech startup incubators and experts in RF technologies. Participants have the opportunity to showcase their products and ideas to IMS exhibition attendees while competing to be “Best Startup of IMS2019.” Prizes for the winner include a feature in Microwave Journal and mentorship at the Venture Café at the Cambridge Innovation Center. This year’s competitors include Atheraxon, Menlo Microsystems, Nalu Scientific and JETCOOL Technologies.

Programming specific to startup attendees includes a panel session on intellectual property along with a discussion geared towards collaboration between innovators and big corporations. Additionally, there will be several events for Young Professionals including panel talks, a reception and dedicated lounge for collaboration and networking.

To register or for information on programming, exhibitors, technical competitions, travel logistics, press registration, and more, please head to the IMS2019 website.
